Solbiati is another family run mill with 150 years experience.Michele Solbiati was founded in Busto Arsizio, in 1874, by the man of the same name. It went on to become a world leader in the linen sector around a century later. On the eve of the First World War, the reins were handed over to Michele’s three sons, Enea, Carlo and Leopoldo Solbiati, who transformed the small commercial enterprise into a real textile company, which soon began to export its products. This continued until 1958, when Vittorio Solbiati, from the fourth generation of the family, joined the company, which found itself battling the major crisis that affected the entire textile sector in the second half of the 1960s. Many established businesses were forced to scale down or even shut up shop. What was needed were new ideas and courage, together with extraordinary levels of responsiveness and innovation. Vittorio Solbiati had the right idea: he got rid of the cheap artificial fibres and focused on linen instead.
Linen is a fabric made from a unique European plant fibre (flax). The idea of focusing on this product was directly inspired by the awareness and literary and artistic background of Vittorio Solbiati, an atypical manager, who was first and foremost a man of culture and then a businessman. Thus linen made a powerful entry into the clothing sector and experienced extraordinary success within a very short space of time.
Solbiati now completes a world of excellence, a real reference point in the textile sector. This mill was the first to yarn dye linen, create a crepe version and soften linen so it would crease naturally. Synonymous with great skill in cloth making Solbiati is the preferred choice of tailors worldwide.
Made from the finest linen and other natural yarns, Jacket is fully lined.
